Cllr Mark Fuchter

My wife Patricia and I moved to Hunstanton after we had retired, driven in part by a desire to live by the coast and for me to be close to some outstanding birdwatching sites. I worked as a customs officer before many years in head office on customs enforcement policies and latterly as national manager of a border security programme. My work included engagement at a political level and with businesses large and small plus working on projects and programmes, Treasury spending reviews and operational performance reporting – experience that I hope will enable me to make a useful contribution to the Town Council.

My voluntary work has included service as a school Governor, NHS Responder, chair of a church parish finance committee and inaugural chair of a residents association. I stood in the 2023 borough council elections in an unsuccessful bid to give a voice to those left behind, disadvantaged and suffering hardship. Since October 2022 I've been privileged to volunteer at the Town Council's Helping Hands initiative, helping to run the Community Fridge, which aims to redistribute surplus food to those who need it most. This spurred me to accept co-option onto the Town Council where I am aiming to act for the common good.
