I was born at the local maternity hospital in 1952 and the first place I lived at was in a flat in the old Sandringham hotel. We then moved into 99 Waveney Rd to one of the first new council houses. I attended a variety of schools. I have particularly fond memories of my time at Hunstanton Primary school. I had some problems in the school environment. Learning disabilities were unknown then. I remember just one teacher Mr. Arnot who had the ability to help me achieve. My parents had seasonal business in Hunstanton, and I worked with them until I was Twenty-nine, when they retired. In the winter I went as a weigh person at British Sugar in Kings Lynn. I have experience of being a seasonal worker with all the problems that causes for your prospects.

I was seventeen when I started working as a part time paid and voluntary Youth Worker in Hunstanton. I received my long service award before I left at thirty-four. I went onto a two-year full-time course in Manchester to qualify to become a professional Youth Worker. I was one of the last lucky people to be given a full grant. I left without a student loan; I realise how difficult my life would have been if things had been different. When I qualified, I went to work in the London area for various London Boroughs. First as a Youth Centre manager then a Peripatetic Youth Team Leader then an area Youth Work Officer and finally as a Detached Youth Work Manager. I retired due to ill health and returned to Hunstanton on the death of my mother. I ran her small property business until two years ago.

One of my interests is disability access and the opportunities for the differently abled in our town. I still keep up to date with my Youth Service training and try to encourage youth activities in the town, I have an interest in community arts, and you may see me all dressed up at suitable events. I like to travel around Britain. I love the water and sailing, canoeing, swimming, not that I get much time for those activities I am so busy I wonder when I had time to work.
